Project Brief: The objective of this project was to develop a visual motion piece depicting a short poem. I picked a verse from the song Open Book by Mikey McCleary. I wanted to keep the theme of my animation minimalistic vector style.

The verse

I guess my life's an open book
Anyone can take a look
No secrets here, to hide
This is just me

Holidays that come and go
Feelings change, people grow
And all I know is
I like being free

[Chorus]
Da, Da, Da
I'll be fine
This is me now
But I could change
Any time​​​​​​​ 

Storyboarding

Since the poem is a short story about life I wanted the user to connect to the character and feel as if she is narrating about the incidents of her life from her diary chapter by chapter.

Takeaways

This was the first motion video that I learned to make in After Effects. The most challenging part was making a 3D book using 2D layers in After Effects. The tricky part was handling pages of the books in the XYZ axis and trying to make is as flowy as possible.
