Project Overview:  Ex-Out is a student-made brand and resource for individuals and groups wanting to learn how to campaign against the spread of hate and violence online.

Ex-Out Design System

We compiled a set of illustrations using our Ex-Out grid. At its core, it's a simple heart shape. But when combined and repeated it turns into a complex grid. They are free and ready-to-use assets to promote your messaging both online and offline.

Mobile Handbook

My role was to research and write on how to use social media and creative content to spread positivity. I also branched out into collecting information on how misinformation is spread online, understanding violent extremism, and how to educate on improving social conditions.

Get Informed

Use our guide to get informed about crafting a message, creating your own content to post online, and ways to spread your message on social media.

Create Content

With the media builder, you can create content with a customizable message, photo, and color scheme to save or share online.

Make Change

Spread your message and generate a positive force against hate and violence online. We know it is not easy, but our guide will be there to help.

Figma + Community

We used Figma to design, iterate, and collaborate. Figma being browser-based, provided real-time collaboration and allowed us to stay organized. 

Web Design

I also had the opportunity to learn how to push content on the website using Github and atom.io and manage it after the launch.

The Team & Honors

Our Ex-Out team was a small group of creators at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with support from the RIT Center for Media, Arts, Games, Interaction, and Creativity (MAGIC) in Rochester, NY.

The Ex-Out team has received industry recognition for its work. The awards include:

• A 2020 American Web Design Award from Graphic Design USA magazine. With more than 2,000 entries submitted, the top 10 percent of projects were selected as winners. 
• Selected for the 2020 University and College Designers Association (UCDA) Design Awards Show. The awards, judged by a panel of peer jurors, recognize “the best of the exceptional design and creative work done by communication professionals to promote educational institutions,” according to UCDA’s site. More than 800 entries were evaluated in the Print and Digital competition, with Ex-Out winning Gold in Mobile Apps and an Award of Excellence in the Other Digital category.
• A finalist in the Identity Manual category of the 2020 Communication Arts Design juried competition. Ex-Out was among the 453 entries shortlisted from the 2,947 projects submitted.
• Three 2021 Indigo Design Awards (Amsterdam, Netherlands): Gold in Apps for Social Change
• Gold in Integrated Graphic Design for Social Change, Freelancer
  Freelancer of the Year Shortlist winner
• International Design Awards: Bronze in Multimedia, Mobile, Web Application Design
• Rochester Advertising Federation Awards: Gold in Online Interactive, Digital Publications, Campaign
  Webby Awards: Nominee in Apps and Software: Public Service and Activism
